Get Data
NC OneMap is a key source for North Carolina GIS data. There are three ways to data: View, Download, and use the NC OneMap Connection for your own web map services (WMS).
View
Displaying Data through the NC OneMap Viewer
The viewer casts data from numerous partners into this internet-based web mapping application where live local government geospatial data is combined with state and federal data. The results are displayed in a “seamless” map. You can select an area of interest and then build your map from the data menu.
Download
Downloading Free Data
More than 100 data layers are available for free and can be downloaded through either the NC OneMap FTP site or a direct data download from this web page. Choose the download that works best for you. (Note: Some partners also support free direct data downloads from their websites through the NC OneMap viewer.)
NC StreetMap
Local governments can now join NCStreetMap! This new tool is dedicated to the exchange of North Carolina street centerline data. It allows all data stewards and data requestors to access the same data repository to upload and download data, substantially reducing the burden on both local government and state government staff.
Data users can create an account at www.ncstreetmap.net. Once approved, users can upload street centerline data using shape files, zip files, or geodatabases. The state’s Integrated State Route Network (ISRN) data layer, which integrated local and state data from 2007, is available for download by all system users. This layer can be used as a base for geocoding addresses.
The instructions are quick and easy to follow for those uploading or downloading data. A template for data export will be posted on the site, soon.
An optional check box allows lets you tie this data into NC OneMap, giving you greater flexibility in distributing your street centerline data.
Use of NCStreetMap is restricted to City, County, Councils of Government, and Tribal government employees in North Carolina, Federal government employees, NC MPO/RPO organization employees, NC academic institution staff/faculty and students, and the State government employees.
It was developed through the Working Group for Roads and Transportation, a subcommittee of the Geographic Information Coordinating Council’s Statewide Mapping Advisory Committee.
Web Map Services
Using the NC OneMap Geospatial Data Backbone
Partners can choose to stream data from NC OneMap into a desktop application in their workplace. You can access a collection of map services for your own desktop applications and even integrate them into your Internet applications. Partners who establish an NC OneMap web map service (WMS) automatically make their data available to others, and in return, they can tap into the rich data resources of the NC OneMap geospatial data backbone.
